Rev. Marion Hamilton
Rev. Marion Hamilton was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and attended a traditional Anglican Church. After completing her training as a registered nurse, she married and moved to New York City. Seven years later, she moved to Los Angeles and earned a Masters degree in Health Science at UCLA.
She joined Kaiser Foundation Hospital as a member of the Nursing Administration Department, where she studied with Dr. Elizabeth Kubler Ross and was a member of the team that implemented the Hospice concept throughout the Southern California Region of Kaiser Permanente.
It was during this period that she first heard Dr. Frank Richelieu and Dr. Bill Hornaday on the radio. Her real life-changing experience began when she attended the Redondo Beach Church of Religious Science and heard a guest speaker, named Dr. Tom Costa, and fell in love with his ability to say just what she needed to hear. In 1993, she moved to Palm Desert and started classes at RSCD. She received her Practitioner license in 1998 and her Minister’s license in 2005.
Her vision as a Pastoral Care Staff Minister, with primary responsibility for John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio, is to provide support to our congregants. She will continue to assist at Eisenhower Hospital, as needed, and at Rehabilitation and Assisted Care Facilities. In addition, she will assist in our monthly grief/loss support group and continue with one-to-one grief counseling.
“As a cancer survivor,” she says, “The personal experience of what I felt when first diagnosed was devastating. I am interested in sharing the process I went through until finally reaching the awareness of accepting what is, and that is when the healing really begins. My intent is to serve and be present when, where and how I may in whatever capacity. I am truly grateful to my Beloved Presence and to those who have supported me through my journey. And as Rev. Joe said, ‘Now the work begins’.”
Rev. Marion was officially installed on Sunday, October 23rd, 2005.
